Islamabad, 14 June 2019:  Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad yesterday celebrated the 158th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore and 120th birth anniversary of National Poet of Bangladesh Kazi Nazrul Islam in a befitting manner and with festivity.

Expatriate Bangladeshis, students, officials of the Mission and locals joined the programme with their family members at the Chancery.

High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Islamabad Tarik Ahsan, in his speech, paid glowing tribute to the memories of Global Poet Rabindranath Tagore and Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, describing them as the protagonists of modern-era Bengali literature. He acclaimed them for their faith in humanity and their stand against all superstitions in the society.

The perpetual appeal of the patriotic works of these two pre-eminent poets inspired Bengalis in the great War of Liberation of Bangladesh. The High Commissioner opined that pursuit of the teachings of these two great poets can help establish a humane society in a world that is afflicted with materialism, discrimination, racism and extremism.

In the cultural event, performers, members of Bangladesh community and children of officials sang songs, and recited poems of Rabindranath and Nazrul. Two separate video documentaries on the lives and works of Rabindranath and Nazrul were also screened.

At the end, the guests were entertained with traditional Bengali food.
