The first visit by an official Israeli representative to the land border between Bangladesh and India has been described as a symbol of the strategic importance Israel places on cooperation with the Indian government in combating terrorism and smuggling along the border.

During the visit, security requirements at various border crossings were reviewed, including the need for advanced technological systems, intelligence-gathering equipment and surveillance and control technologies aimed at preventing potential security threats to Indian territory and its citizens.

According to statements surrounding the visit, the use of high-quality technological equipment is considered essential for strengthening border security and enhancing efforts against cross-border crime and terrorism.

Meanwhile, Mendi Safadi, head of the Safadi Center for International Diplomacy and Research, stressed the importance of continuing efforts to ensure the security of minorities in Bangladesh and to safeguard freedom of worship and movement.

Safadi also claimed that if a government led by Tariq Rahman fails to guarantee the security and religious freedom of minorities in Bangladesh, he would use his international connections and diplomatic networks to pursue action against such leadership. He further asserted that he had played a role in the political developments that led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government.

However, Safadi’s claims and political remarks have not been independently verified, and no immediate official response from the relevant authorities was available.
