Dipok Roy, Rangpur Correspondent : A human chain has been formed to demand recognition of the martyrs of the siege of Rangpur Cantonment on March 26, 1971 during the Great War of Liberation. People of Nisbetganj area of the city, including family members of the victims, organized the rally in front of Rangpur Press Club on Sunday afternoon.
The heroic freedom fighter Abdus Sattar, the heroic freedom fighter Balaram Mahanta, the killer broker elimination committee organizer Dr. Mofizul Islam Mantu, Advocate Lutful Kabir, Muktijoddha Sontan Command member Zakaria Zakir, Ajay Kumar Dulu and others.
The speakers said that the historic decision of the siege of Rangpur Cantonment on March 26, 1971 prepared the people for the attack. At that time, a dozen jeeps came out of the cantonment and started firing machine guns at the procession.
In just five minutes all around became silent. Thousands of bodies are lying in the field. Those who sacrificed their lives for freedom on that day are still not recognized as martyrs. They immediately demanded the recognition of those killed in the Rangpur Cantonment siege movement as martyrs.
