Working at Rotang Pass is available for only 4 to 5 months a year. This route is closed for the rest of the year due to extreme cold and snow. With the opening of this tunnel, it will be possible to travel all year round on the Manali-Le Highway. Yet this steady tunnel is one of the strangest examples of Indian engineering.
Officials at the construction company said such work is difficult enough at an altitude of 10,000 feet. There is an exit tunnel every 500 meters. There is a fire extinguishing system.
The tunnel is ten and a half meters wide. 1 meter sidewalk has been made on both sides of the road. The tunnel will reduce the distance from Manali to Leh town by 48 km. As a result, the time on hilly roads will be reduced by about 4 hours. This tunnel is also very important from the military point of view.
