High-quality houses have to be built in the ‘Guchhogram’ which is one of the priority projects of the government to poverty alleviation, in commensurate with the economic development of the country. Said Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, MP .
The Minister said this while addressing the progress review meeting of implementation of the Annual Development Program (ADP) of the fiscal year 2019-20, held in the conference room of the Ministry of Land at the Secretariat today Wednesday.
Minister further said, we have formed the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the pledge of ‘My Village, My Town’. We have been working to ensure to provide modern civic amenities in the village while ensuring its uniqueness and preserving the natural landscape and natural diversity. Guchogram needs to be developed in the new dimension in keeping with that goal.
We are trying to bring disadvantaged, landless and homeless people to the mainstream development process by ensuring maximum benefit through Guchogram project.
It is to be noted that, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited Ramgati Upazila (in the present day Lakshmipur district) on February 20 of 1972. He inaugurated the construction of the ‘Kella’ Safeland/platform by digging the soil to protect livestock along with the disaster affected people and promised to set up Guchhogram in the Ramgati Upazila. That was subsequently implemented.
The land minister has directed the project manager of Guchhogram to assess the feasibility of building high-quality houses. Besides, the Land Minister also directed the officials present at the meeting to efficiently complete various projects.
Land Secretary Md. Muksodur Rahman Patwary, Chairman of the Land Reform Board (LRB) Ummul Hasna, Head of the various Departments/Offices under the land ministry, senior officials of the Ministry of Land including the project directors of various projects were present in the meeting among others.
