Dipak Roy, Taraganj (Rangpur) Correspondent : In Taraganj upazila of Rangpur, all kinds of vegetables including potatoes are suffering due to high prices. Buyers at all levels, including the people of the upazila, are seeking the administration’s attention in controlling the prices of daily necessities in the market.
It is known that Taraganj Bazar is known as the biggest market of Taraganj Upazila. From this market various raw materials and other daily necessities are supplied to the various hat-bazaars of the upazila. But in this big market of the upazila, the selling price of all kinds of raw materials is going up and the consumers of all levels of the upazila are suffering.
It can be seen on the spot in the raw market of Taraganj Bazar that potatoes are being sold at 40 to 45 rupees per kg depending on the type, ignoring the government instructions. Eggplant 35-40 rupees per kg, radish 30-35 rupees per kg, patal 60 rupees, medium size pumpkin 30 to 35 rupees per piece, cauliflower 90 to 100 rupees, pumpkin 80 rupees, bean 75 rupees, green pepper 180 rupees, carrot 120 rupees, local onion 110 rupees, Indian onion 70 rupees, coriander leaves 70 rupees, red spinach and laushak 35 rupees.
Bishwanath, Rafiqul and Chabed Ali of Ikarchali Union of the upazila, who came to Taraganj Bazar to do kacha bazaar, said, “The winter vegetable market has started to rise a few weeks ago. A trader in Taraganj Bazar, who did not want to be named, said, “We are also bringing goods from moneylenders at higher prices.” Again there is the cost of bringing it up to the store. We have to cover those costs. If we do not sell raw materials at such prices, we will face losses.
Asked about this, Upazila Agriculture Officer Urmi Tabassum said, “Potatoes are produced in Taraganj Upazila in excess of the demand.” Even then the high price of potatoes here. Adequate amount of other vegetables are also cultivated in this upazila. Even then, I do not know why the price is so high. However, I can say that the farmers do not get this high price in the raw market. However, the market control of food products is not under the control of the Agriculture Office, so it is not possible for me to say anything about the high price of edible potatoes.
However, UNO Aminul Islam said that due to the off-season, the prices of some vegetables are going up. However, regular market monitoring activities are underway to control the price of potatoes. I hope the price of potato will be controlled in every market of the upazila within a few days.
