Since Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 5, demands have emerged to ban the Awami League for alleged genocide, money laundering, looting, repression, and misrule. Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has now raised the same demand.

On Saturday during a grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka, Hefazat-e-Islam presented a 12-point demand that included banning the Awami League. The demands were announced by the organization’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, Mawlana Mahfuzul Haque.

The rally was presided over by Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari, and was attended by top leaders from Hefazat-e-Islam and prominent Islamic scholars from across the country.

During the presentation, Mawlana Mahfuzul Haque remembered the martyrs of the May 5, 2013 massacre at Shapla Chattar and the July movement, including 84 madrasa students and teachers. He prayed for their souls and wished quick recovery for the wounded and expressed sympathy for those left disabled.

Hefazat’s 12-Point Demands:

Women’s Reform Commission: Immediately dissolve the Women’s Reform Commission and its anti-Quranic report. Form a new commission based on the advice of Islamic scholars and include representatives of devout women. Reforms for women’s social progress must follow our religious and cultural values, not Western ideology.

Restore Faith in Allah in the Constitution: Reinstate full faith and trust in Allah in the constitution. The government must abandon the idea of pluralism, which threatens religious faith and practices. Efforts to promote terms like gender identity, diversity, equality, third gender, etc., which allegedly serve as a cover for promoting LGBT and transgender inclusion, must be stopped as they are seen as harmful and anti-religious.

Justice for Massacres: Enhance the tribunal’s capacity to expedite trials related to the Shapla Chattar and July massacres. Sheikh Hasina and her identified accomplices must be brought to justice before the national elections.

Ban the Awami League: Declare the Awami League a terrorist organization for its alleged genocide and fascism. Ban its activities until justice is served.

Blasphemy Law: Enact strict laws to stop blasphemy and insults against Allah and His Messenger (PBUH). Revoke the Media Reform Commission’s recommendation to remove existing legal provisions related to religious defamation. No compromise will be accepted on this issue.

Justice for Saiful Islam: Revoke the bail of Chinmoy Das, accused of inciting the murder of martyr Saiful Islam by Hindu extremists in Chattogram, and ensure exemplary punishment.

Withdraw False Cases: The interim government must immediately withdraw or resolve all false and fabricated cases filed against protesting scholars, madrasa students, and religiously-inclined youth during Hasina’s rule. Those who abused the “terrorism” label to suppress Islamic voices over the past 15 years must face exemplary punishment.

Oppose Israel and India: The new post-uprising government must be more vocal diplomatically in protesting the ongoing genocide in Gaza by Israel and persecution of Muslims in India. All citizens must boycott Israeli and Indian products.

Mandatory Islamic Education: Make Islamic education compulsory at all levels of the education system, from primary to higher education, in this Muslim-majority country.

Revoke Humanitarian Corridor to Rakhine: The government’s agreement to provide a humanitarian corridor to Rakhine is a disastrous decision. It must be immediately reversed in the interest of national security.

Stop Missionary Activities in Hills: The government must act to stop foreign missionary activities and lawlessness in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Support and secure religious outreach by scholars, increase military security, and promote social and political harmony among indigenous and ethnic groups in the region.

Ban Qadianis: Officially ban the Qadiani (Ahmadiyya) community in Bangladesh. Their activities must be stopped to protect the faith (iman and aqidah) of ordinary Muslims.
