Dipak Roy, Taraganj (Rangpur) Correspondent: The revelation of embezzlement of Asian Development Project (ADP) allocation against a UP chairman in Rangpur’s Taraganj has caused a stir in the entire union and upazila.  The project has come up with a picture of embezzlement of Rs 1.5 lakh allocated for the purchase of musical instruments for a cultural center of the union, purchase of construction materials, bill of Rs 2 lakh and deposit in the office.  The information has come up against Mohiuddin Azam Kiran, chairman of Sayar Union Parishad of the upazila.
According to the information obtained under the Right to Information Act, it is seen that the chairman has embezzled the money by depositing the bill voucher in his own name instead of the bill voucher in the name of the project president.  According to the estimate of the project, the chairman was required to purchase musical instruments in his own name at Rs 95,000, cement at Rs 43,280, cobblestone and sand at Rs 26,940, 6 meter drain and Rs 33,600 for a mechanic.  Withdrew the allotted money by depositing vouchers of lakhs of rupees.
When asked about this on the mobile phone of the said UP Chairman Mohiuddin Azam Kiran, he cut the phone line without making any comment.
Upazila Assistant Engineer Mamunur Rahman said, “I have prepared the estimate of the project.”  But I did not know that there was no such cultural center.  Upazila Engineer Haider Zaman said, “I don’t have the documents for the project.”  So I can’t say anything.
Asked about this on the phone of Upazila Chairman Anisur Rahman, he said, “I have now left for Dhaka.”  It is not possible for me to say anything about it without seeing the file.  I will come back from Dhaka and look at the file.
