Meeting with French Ambassador

French Ambassador, Marie-Annick BOURDIN, invited to discuss on the issue of “The upcoming election of Bangladesh: The fear of the minority, their security and its way out”.

On 21 October 2018 Sunday, Dipan Mitra, Secretary General of World Hindu Federation – Bangladesh Chapter and Promithias Chowdhury, Editor of “The News” online newspaper, attended to this meeting. Mr. Benjamin MARTIN, Secretary of Political and Cultural Affairs of French Embassay, Dhaka was participated to this discussion.

French Ambassador Marie-Annick BOURDIN, expressed her concern about human rights violations and active discrimination of minorities in Bangladesh. She promised to help and support for ensuring the rights of minorities in Bangladesh. She assigned her political secretary, Mr. Benjamin MARTIN, to work on this issue.

Dipan Mitra described the situation of minorities in Bangladesh. He mentioned that minorities (Hindus) are facing human rights violations and active discrimination in Bangladesh. According to the constitution, every citizen has equal rights, but indeed the practice is quite different. Minorities and Ethnic communities don’t even get equal rights even fair judicial support in many respects. Very often their land-properties are being grabbed and their mandirs (temple) are vandalized.

Dipan Mitra mentioned that it is common practice in Bangladesh that post parliament election, minorities are facing extreme violence and they are brutally tortured.

He also told, “we are mainly concern about the situation minorities are facing post parliament election. In this regards, we need international support and cooperation for stopping the violence against minorities in Bangladesh in upcoming parliament election”. French Ambassador promised to work together for ensuring the rights of minorities in Bangladesh.
