In the incident surrounding the imprisonment of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagoron Jote, 1,479 people have been named as accused in three cases, with 79 named specifically. The remaining 1,400 individuals have been identified as unidentified suspects. Police stated that the accused are followers of Chinmoy.
According to Kazi Mohammad Tarek Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Public Relations), 27 people have been arrested in connection with the conflict that occurred in the court premises. Among them, 20 individuals are accused of attacking the police, and 7 are implicated in the murder of lawyer Alif.
The 27 individuals were presented in court yesterday in three separate cases related to the assault on police officers and vehicle vandalism. Eleven people are named in the attack on the court premises, while eight people each are implicated in incidents in front of the Rongom Cinema Hall and at the Kotwali intersection. The court has ordered their imprisonment. Among those arrested, seven are directly involved in the murder of Advocate Alif, as confirmed by the police, who identified them through videos, CCTV footage, and photographs.
Outside of these 27, the DB police arrested a person named Rajib Bhattacharya, also known as Suman, last night. He is the son of Sunil Bhattacharya from Abdullahpur, Fatikchhari, and is currently residing in room number 3 of Mia Saheb’s building behind Manka School in Pattharghata.
The arrested individuals in the case related to the police assault at the court premises are: Joy Nath (19) from Pattharghata, Rummit Das (32), Nayan Das (28), Gagan Das (34), Sumit Das (20), Aman Das (30), Bishal Das (26), Sonu Das Methar (24), Suman Das (22), Saju Baidya (39), and Ajay Sutradhar Chowdhury (28) from Battery Goli.
The individuals arrested for the assault on the police in front of the Rongom Cinema Hall are: Partha Chakraborty (37), Apu Seal (21) from Dewanhat, Ujjol Das Jonny (27) from Chaktai, Apu Chandra Saha (55) from Baniyapatti, Niloy Das (24) from Baksirhat, Dhruv Das (19) from Sebok Colony, Mohammad Delwar Hossain (21) from Baw Bazar, and Mohammad Nurul (19).
Those arrested for the police assault at the Kotwali Police Station’s Mahim Das Road are: Imon Chakraborty (24) from Anwara, Sujan Chandra Das (34) from Moulabirhat, Sourav Das (24) from Hemsen Lane, Mohammad Rakib (23) from Doublemooring, Suman Das (40) from West Madarbari, Rupen Das (25) from Chawk Bazar, Ahmad Hossain (25) from Shikalbahr, and Mohammad Sakibul Alam (19) from North Nalpara.
The police reported that a violent clash occurred on Tuesday surrounding the order to send Chinmoy Brahmachari to prison. During the clash, Chattogram District Court lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death. Earlier that afternoon, a confrontation between protesters demanding Chinmoy Krishna Das’s unconditional release and the police resulted in injuries to 12 police officers, and a police vehicle was also damaged.
The Kotwali Police Station reported that the incidents at the court premises, in front of Rongom Cinema Hall, and at the Kotwali intersection were separate attacks on police officers and vehicle vandalism. Three separate cases were filed in connection with these incidents. The case related to the court premises names 52 individuals and includes 600 to 700 unidentified suspects. The attack in front of Rongom Cinema Hall names 14 individuals and includes 300 to 400 unidentified suspects, while the Kotwali intersection incident names 13 individuals and includes 250 to 300 unidentified suspects.
