THE NEWS DESK:The Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover’s Shantinagar- Razarbagh point will be opened soon for vehicular movement which is expected to ease traffic congestion in the area to a great extent.
“Construction of flyover has already been completed. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the flyover in the next month. Date will be finalized after getting her consent,” Project Director of Mogbazar-Mouchak Flyover Project Sushanto Kumar Paul told reporter today.
He said renovation works of footpaths, drainage system and works on medians under the flyover project will also be completed within a week.
Dhaka South City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Khan Mohammad Belal said according to the agreement, the company constructing the flyover will do the works of roads, medians and leveling and these should be done before the inauguration of the point of the flyover.
“But we have some works, including making of footpath and drainage system, City Corporation’s Engineering Department, Flyover authority and LGED are working in a coordinated manner,” he added.
Belal expressed hope that after the completion of roads and drainage system under the flyover will also lessen water-logging in Shantinagar, Malibagh and Mouchak areas.
The project implementation cost is Taka 1,218. 89 crore. Of the amount, the government financed Taka 442.73 crore and Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) funded Taka 776.16 crore.
The four-lane flyover has 15 ramps including Tejgoan Satrasta, FDC, Moghbazar, Holy Family Hospital, Bangla Motor, Malibagh, Rajarbagh Police Line and Shantinagar points. .
On March 30, 2016, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first part of the Moghbazar-Mouchak Flyover Project from Satrasta to Ramna thana point.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the Ishkaton-Mouchak point of the flyover on September 15, 2016 while on May 17 this year, the Karwanbazar-FDC point was opened for vehicular movement.
