Gunmen attack Dagestan in Russia’s North Caucasus. Six policemen, a priest and a member of the National Guard were killed in an attack by gunmen in Russia’s North Caucasus region of Dagestan.

Local security officials said 12 more policemen were injured in the attack on Sunday (June 23). The attacks targeted a synagogue, two churches and a police checkpoint in the towns of Darbent and Makhachkala. The British media reported the news.
According to reports, the attacks took place in Dagestan’s largest city, Makhachkala, and the coastal city of Derbent.

However, those involved in this attack have not yet been identified. However, Dagestan has been attacked by militant groups in the past. But this time, no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to the AFP report, the Russian authorities have launched an investigation calling the attack a “terrorist act”.
Two churches and two synagogues were targeted in Sunday’s attack. A priest of an Orthodox church has been killed in Makhachkala, Dagestan’s largest city.

In a video circulating on social media, some men dressed in black are seen firing at a police vehicle. The members of the emergency services came to the scene without delay after receiving the news of the shooting.

Gunmen attacked synagogues and a church in Derbent, home to an ancient Jewish community. Later they set it on fire.
A police vehicle was attacked in Sergokol village. Police detained Magomed Omerov, head of Sargokalinsky district near Makhachkala. His two sons are reported to be among Sunday’s attackers.
