A court has denied bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Jot and principal of Pundarik Dham, who was arrested on sedition charges. The sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Chattogram, presided over by Judge Kazi Shariful Islam, issued the ruling Tuesday afternoon.

Sanatanis held a protest in the Chattogram court premises following the denial of bail. Some Hindu lawyers also expressed their dissatisfaction.

Defense lawyer Swarup Kanti Nath asserted Chinmoy’s innocence, stating that an appeal would be filed soon. However, earlier in the day, as Chinmoy was being brought to court, members of the Sanatani Hindu community blocked the prison van and raised slogans such as “Victory to Shri Ram!”, “Chinmoy Prabhu, don’t fear, we haven’t left the streets!”, “I sought rights, but ended up with a prison cell.”

The protesters demanded justice and the dismissal of the charges against Chinmoy while presenting eight key demands for fair legal treatment.

Chinmoy Speaks from the Prison Van
While police struggled to move the blocked van, Chinmoy addressed the crowd through a microphone. He emphasized the peaceful nature of their movement, urging his followers to maintain stability and harmony. “Our eight demands are fundamental and just,” he said, calling for continued nonviolent protests.

Court Ruling and Background
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) of CMP, Mofizur Rahman, explained that the bail request was denied in connection to a flag-related incident at New Market. The court ordered arrangements for Chinmoy’s religious practices and medical needs while in custody.

Chinmoy was arrested Monday evening at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport by DMP detectives and transferred to Chattogram. He was named in a sedition case filed by BNP leader Firoz Khan on October 31, alongside 18 others. Allegations include replacing the national flag with a religious flag at Chattogram’s New Market Zero Point on August 5, sparking public outrage.

Sanatanis’ Response
The Sanatan Jagaran Jot vowed to continue their protests until their demands were met, accusing authorities of suppressing constitutional rights and using legal tactics to undermine their movement.

ISKCON’s Reaction
ISKCON Bangladesh condemned Chinmoy’s arrest and the alleged persecution of Sanatani Hindus in a statement by General Secretary Charuchandra Das Brahmachari. The organization also protested violence against Sanatani communities across the country.
