A Chattogram court has granted a two-day remand for Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sanatani Jagaran Jot and an ISKCON leader, in two separate cases related to sedition and the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam.
The order was issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin’s court on Sunday morning following a hearing. The matter was confirmed by Assistant Public Prosecutor Md. Raihanul Wajed Chowdhury.
He stated that the investigation officer in the cases had requested court permission to interrogate Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari at the jail gate for the two cases filed at Kotwali Police Station. Following the hearing, the court granted one day of jail gate interrogation for each case, totaling two days.
Chinmoy was not presented in court during the hearing.
Earlier, on May 6, the court had ordered Chinmoy to be shown arrested in four separate cases, including a murder case filed by the brother of lawyer Alif and three others related to the violent incidents on November 26, 2024, in the Chattogram court area.
On November 26, 2024, after the court rejected bail for BNP’s expelled leader Feroz Khan in a sedition case, violent protests erupted in the court premises. During this unrest, lawyer Alif was killed on the road opposite the Rangam Convention Hall near the Chattogram court. Five separate cases were filed in connection with the incident, involving over 2,000 accused individuals.
It is noteworthy that on November 26 last year, the court ordered Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari to be sent to jail after rejecting his bail in a sedition case. On April 30 this year, he was granted bail by the High Court, but his release was delayed after the state appealed to the Appellate Division to stay the bail order. Subsequently, he was shown arrested in five more cases.
