DurgaPuja Hindus are constantly decreasing, mandap is increasing. Every year on the occasion of DurgaPuja , somewhere in Bangladesh, temples are vandalized, killed and tortured. At that time Hindus protested. Soon the nation forgets those things and rejoices. Not only that, every year Bangladeshi Hindus are increasing the number of DurgaPuja s. Lakhs of hindus throng the streets during the Janmashtami procession but hundreds are not to be found during the protests. This is the weak, conscienceless Hindu caste of present Bangladesh. The last five years will see 31,398 in 2019 (an increase of 338 mandapas from the previous year; idols were vandalized in 19 districts that year). 30,213 in 2020 (reduced by 1,185 pavilions due to Covid-19). In 2021, there were 32,118 mandaps (1905 mandaps increased from the previous year); in that year, 300 puja mandaps were vandalized in 22 districts, five people were killed and thousands of houses were vandalized, as well as torture, oppression, exploitation, arson, molestation, etc. In 2021, the court released Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, the mastermind behind the 16-month prison sentence, who destroyed 300 puja mandaps, destroyed the houses of thousands of Hindus and killed five Hindus by creating a riot by placing the Quran at the temple of Comilla during the Durga Puja. Atrocity is punishable by 16 months imprisonment and Hindus are subjected to torture and imprisonment for life without committing a crime. 32,168 in 2022 (an increase of 50 pavilions from the previous year). In the last 5 years the population of Hindus has decreased rather than increased (as per Census and Housing Census 2022). Hindu wealth has declined in the last 5 years (as per organizational data).
In this year 2023, idols have already been vandalized in various places. Therefore, it is not accepted that Puja is always celebrated properly and beautifully. In other words, we see that the pujamandap is not growing in the country based on population growth, economic development or proper and beautiful puja celebration.
What could be the main reason for the growth of puja mandap?
Even though the number of Hindus in Bangladesh is decreasing, showing more religious events is a strategy to show proof of enjoying religious freedom. By any means, the religious elites encourage the increase of puja mandap through discord.
In our society we are constantly divided by self-conflict. Problems in the committee, problems in the overall management of worship, jealousy, pride, hatred etc. Apart from these, there is no positive reason for the increase of the pujamandap.
Hindu society gain or loss in the increase of pujamandap in Bangladesh?
There are fewer healthy cultural programs in the pujamandaps. Most of the places are counterculture, weird DJ dances. As a result, fines are increasing, so is the rate of increase. As soon as Pooja arrives, an invisible sick competition begins. In a contest where a small group wins, the entire Hindu society loses. As a result of day by day division, our strength of unity is diminishing, no one notices that.
We don’t have money when we buy a religious book for 100 rupees for our child, but we have no objection to spend 10,000 rupees when we build a separate mandap and spend it in the name of puja out of arrogance due to violence. Survey the established puja-mandaps, how many mandaps have libraries of religious books? 1% of Mandaps in the entire country do not have religious libraries. Crores of rupees are being spent on worship, but for future generations, the temple committee of Bangladesh is not able to spend lakhs of rupees for the advancement of religious education. Will the future generation be saved by only eating joy and prasad?
When will the eyes open? Conversions are constantly increasing. The time is no longer for religion to be limited to joy and happiness. No matter how much joy there is in a population where knowledge does not spread, destruction is inevitable. Today someone else’s child is converting, tomorrow it may be yours too. So observe religion sattvicly by excluding Reshareshi.
I am not against ecstasy in worship, of course everyone has a right to enjoy it, but violent and eccentric ecstasy is never religion.
If 20,000 mandapas are worshiped all over Bangladesh, that would be enough. Puja Udyapan Parishad may give some restrictions for each pujamandap. For example:
- In worship there is respect, there is humility, there is devotion, there is purity. Festivals have only joy, so worship Durga not Goddess Durga.
- Organize tasteful religious cultural evenings and religious discussions, to increase knowledge, sensitize the youth without creating noise pollution by playing loud microphones.
- In every pooja mandap arrange to offer anjali to all in proper manner in proper manner with sattvikbhava solemnity. Organizing Samavet Chandi Paths.
- Idols should be constructed according to Dhyan Mantra, one cannot be arbitrary by constructing idols in the name of theme.
- It is mandatory to wear veil in worship.
- At least 30 youths, 20 fifty-something men and 10 thirty-five-something women should be in charge of the pavilion. There is no need to perform puja if the mandap itself cannot be protected.
- There should be at least 5 CCTV cameras.
- One cannot take part in any puja ceremony while intoxicated or addicted.
- Obscene DJ songs and dances are strictly prohibited.
- A request to parents, find out what your child is doing in the name of happiness, stop him from doing anything indecent.
One important thing is that we are not worshiping Goddess Durga, at least we are celebrating Durga in Ashivag Mandapam. Therefore, in the future, everyone will be forced to comply with the system of rewards and fines for those who do not comply with the rules.
