THE NEWS DESK: Team India captain Virat Kohli thanked his fans for wishing him on his 29th birthday on Sunday

Kohli turned 29 on Sunday
He became the fastest man to reach 9000 ODI runs


He is also second on the list of most ODI centuries with 32
Virat Kohli thanked his fans on twitter for all the birthday wishes that poured in for the Indian cricket team’s captain on Sunday.

Kohli, who turned 29, was wished my his huge number of fans and players alike and he didn’t forget to record a video and appreciate them.

“Hi guys, thank you for all the love and wishes. It has been really overwhelming and heartening to see all the wishes that have come in,” Kohli said.


He also spoke about an initiative that he has taken, asking people to come out and play a sport and send him a video, from which he will choose the best and play a game with them. (Virat Kohli opens up about his cheat meal: Chole Bhature)

“Today on on my birthday I’m going to start something really special. I want you to go out with your friends and play a sport…any sport that you like and send me a video footage of that game with the hashtag One8Crew, send it across to me and I will look at all those who can be a part of my crew and play a game or two with me. Don’t forget to send me your videos and stay in touch so that where and when we are going to play. Cheers,” Kohli signed off. The 29-year-old has been on a record-breaking spree in one day internationals and recently became the fastest man to breach the 9000-run mark.

Kohli also surpassed Ricky Ponting in October to move to second in the list of most century-scorers in ODIs. Kohli currently has 32 hundreds to his name and is only behind Sachin Tendulkar (49). In terms of international hundreds, Kohli now has 49 tons, which is the second most by an India batsman behind Tendulkar’s 100 hundreds.

Kohli is ranked No.1 in ODIs and is currently the leading run-getter in the format in 2017. He has been India’s most prolific chaser since his ODI debut and has scored 16 hundreds in successful run chases for India so far.

Also, under him, India have become the No.1 ranked Test team and has won seven billateral ODI series in a row and will go on top of the ODI rankings as well when India play Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series next month. Currently, India are second with 120 rating points tied with South Africa, who are also on top with 120 points. But the Proteas lead the table due to their superior seven point lead. India have 6,379 while the former have 6,386.

India, however, are fifth in the T20I standings but will look to improve on that when they take on New Zealand in the series decider on Tuesday at Thiruvananthapuram. The series is currently tied at 1-1.
