Police have recovered 20,300 pieces of uniforms belonging to the armed hill group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) from a garment factory in Chattogram.
The uniforms were seized on the night of May 17 from Ringvo Apparels, located in the Noyarhat area under CMP’s Bayezid Bostami police station. In connection with the incident, police have arrested three individuals, including the owner of the factory.
The incident became public on Sunday (May 25). A case was filed at Bayezid Bostami police station on May 18, naming four accused. The case was filed by Sub-Inspector Iqbal Hossain of the Detective Branch (DB) of the city police.
The arrested individuals are Shahedul Islam, Golam Azam, and Niaz Haider. According to police, Shahedul Islam is the owner of the garment factory, while the others were responsible for procuring the order for manufacturing the uniforms.
The case details mention that Golam Azam and Niaz Haider took the order in March to manufacture the uniforms. They had accepted the order from one Monghlaseng Marma, also known as Mong, under a contract worth 20 million BDT (2 crore taka). KNF members had also supplied the fabric for the uniforms. The delivery was scheduled for this month.
However, before delivery could be made, police received a tip-off and seized the 20,300 uniforms from Ringvo Apparels. While CMP officials have refrained from making official statements, a senior CMP officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed, “We have seized some uniforms and arrested three individuals.”
