Three Cases Filed by CMP in Chinmoy and Incident Involving 1,476 Accused

In connection with the three-way clash surrounding the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, three separate cases have been filed by the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP). A total of 1,476 people have been named as accused in these three cases.

On Wednesday evening (November 27), the cases were filed at the Kotwali Police Station, confirmed CMP’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Media), Kazi Mohammad Tariq Aziz. However, lawyer Saiful Islam stated that no case has been filed in the murder incident. He also assured that the family of the victim will be taking legal action.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner mentioned that, so far, 27 people have been arrested in connection with the clashes. Among them, 20 individuals were involved in attacks on the police, and 7 are involved in the murder of lawyer Alif.

He further informed that on Tuesday afternoon, a clash occurred between police and protesters demanding the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the spokesperson for the Sanatan Jagaran Mancha. During the clash, 12 police officers were injured, and a police vehicle was vandalized.

It has been reported that the attacks on the police and vehicle vandalism occurred at three locations: the court premises in Kotwali, the Rangma Cinema Hall, and the Kotwali intersection. Separate cases have been filed by the Kotwali police for each of the three incidents.

In these cases, 49 individuals have been named for the attack on the court premises, with 600 to 700 unidentified individuals also involved. For the clash in front of Rangma Cinema Hall, 14 individuals have been named, with 300 to 400 unidentified individuals. For the incident at Kotwali intersection, 13 individuals have been named, with 250 to 300 others unidentified.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Fazlul Kader Chowdhury stated, “Three cases have been filed. All the accused are members of ISKCON and followers of Chinmoy Das. Legal proceedings are ongoing against them.”
