“Joy Bangla Youth Award on Oct 20,2018”

Rajib Sharma, Ctg. Office: The third edition of “Joy Bangla Youth Award” will be held on October 20-21 aiming to scout out and showcase the champions of change through a comprehensive search and to bring them under one platform.

This year 30 youth led platforms, groups or clubs will be awarded under ten categories-3 from each segments—, namely-skills development, inclusive education, empowerment of differently abled people, cultural awakenings, innovators, sports and fitness, public awareness building initiatives, gender equality and other initiatives to scale up social development indices.

Youths aged between 18 years and 35 years can now apply online from the Young Bangla website (http://youngbangla.org/member/joy-bangla-youth-award-2018.php) for details.

This time, under the categories of public awareness building initiatives, gender equality and a number of issues would be considered for the award.

Those who are working for building awareness campaign in making the roads safer and for keeping the environment safe can take up this scope.

Besides the platforms or clubs which are providing essential social services to children out of schools or without families or street children or children or persons with disabilities, vulnerable women, old-aged people, religion-ethnic minority and refugees, extreme poor and other vulnerable people are also put on the list.

Those who are implementing innovative programmes for enhancing youth employability, disaster and climate risk reduction and sustainable environment management and of sports or physical education activities for the youth are also being taken under consideration.

With the application went online on August 21, applicants can fill in the form to describe their projects till September 30th.

Moreover, to extend the reach of the network, as many as 47 activation camps-both at upazila level and academic institutions– are lined up to take place in different parts of the country in the coming days.

Also designed is a total of 30 Joy Bangla Youth Meetings at district level to allow aspirants to submit their hard copies.

After the application deadline is over on September 30, a rigorous screening process will take place to sort out top applicants. Then, evaluation teams will go for spot visits to assess the impact of the works of applicants and find out the final 30.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who is also her ICT Affairs Adviser, will distribute the award in the last week of October.

In the first day, a number of interactive sessions are devised, alongside several grooming sessions will be arranged to help the toppers sharpen their skills, find out their obstacles in the future road and assist them grow further.

On the second day, the award giving ceremony is scheduled to take place with Sajeeb Wazed in attendance to hand over the awards.

‘Young Bangla’ was launched in 2014 to involve youths in development process and bring up their ideas to policymakers. Till date, the platform has seen 2,00,000 members and 15,000 volunteers and over 200 organizations get tagged and avail registration with this platform.

The award is one of its flagship initiatives to identify, showcase and recognise the youth change makers.

In the first edition, 30 individuals and organisations were awarded from over 1,500 applications for their outstanding works at the community level in areas of promoting youth employability, ending violence against women, child and adult education, and cultural activities.

Also the second edition, took place in 2017, saw a total of 64 youth led organizations receive the awards for their noteworthy works in the field of community development, business enterprises and other social awareness building initiatives.

Following those two events, a network among them has been developed. The ‘Young Bangla’ provided them required assistance so that they can grow further and reach more people.

Those awarded are now leading the district level campaigns for the second edition.

Sabbir Bin Shams, executive director of non-profit Centre for Research and Information or CRI that works as the Young Bangla Secretariat, said they would provide all kind of “technical and necessary assistance” for this initiative.

Over the course of last two years, a number of schemes were rolled out for the award winners. These include Microsoft Young Bangla Lab, Young Achievers’ Delegation to China and Young Achievers’ Delegation to India.
