Dipok Roy, Rangpur Correspondent : In the upcoming UP election in Taraganj of Rangpur, an attempt has been made to attack the house of Md. Mizanur Rahman Sarkar, a candidate of Awami League for the post of chairman of Saar Union No. 5 and secretary of Saar Union Awami League for forest and environment.  Mizanur Rahman Sarkar’s son, Adv.  Your government Russell.

Going to the spot and talking to the villagers and the police station there, it is learned that goods worth around Tk 12,000 were stolen from the shop of Shaidul Islam (49), a disabled son of the late Nashubuddin of Damodarpur Mamunpara village in Sayar Union on Sunday night.  When the incident was reported to Taraganj police station, the police visited the spot.  Enraged, Moktar Ali and Milon, sons of Maqbool Hossain of Mamun Para village, and 10 to 12 unidentified Awami League leaders insulted Mizanur Sarkar and UP member Mominur Sarkar and marched towards their homes with sticks.  The assailants fled the scene after the villagers took a stand against the assailants.  Police later went to the spot and took control of the situation.

In this regard, the legal affairs secretary of the Central Motor Workers League, Adv.  Apon Sarkar Russell said Moktar Ali, son of Maqbool Hossain, is the pet goon of the current chairman Kiran.  Moktar and his forces carried out the incident on the instructions of Kiran chairman.

Although Mohiuddin Azam Kiran, chairman of Saar UP, tried to contact him on his mobile phone more than once, he could not be reached for comment.

SI Mizanur Rahman, who visited the spot, said the incident was intentional.  However, before we reached the spot, the attackers fled as they faced resistance from the villagers.  We went to the house of accused Moktar Ali and did not find him.

Taraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ismail Hossain said on his mobile phone, “I am out of the police station.”  After finding out about the incident over the phone, I sent a police force there.  If I go to the office, I will know the details.
