Dipok Roy, Taraganj (Rangpur) Correspondent: Thousands of people from five villages have been affected due to the collapse of the only road in the river Jamuneshwari in Taraganj of Rangpur.  Due to the efforts of the locals, the construction work is going on at the risk of public life by constructing bamboo shoots on the broken road.

Going to the spot, it can be seen that the river Jamuneshwari flows over the village of Kashiabari Ghatialpara in Hariarkuthi union of the upazila.  Although there is not much water in the river during the drought, the flow of water in the river increases during the monsoon.  In the early monsoon of this year, the banks of the river began to break on both sides due to rising water and currents.  At one stage, the only access road of 5 villages in the area passing through Ghatialpara in the river collapsed into the river about 400 meters.

Thousands of people in those 5 villages were distressed by this.  In the last few days, when the river flooded, the road completely collapsed and several houses on the side of the road were on the verge of collapsing.  Any time a house collapses in the river, a few families may become homeless.  The villagers are constructing bamboo dams in the face of the demolition to save the families from the clutches of the demolition and to facilitate the movement.  But they have to travel an additional 6 to 7 km with agricultural products and other commodities.  With alternative road to distance.  By doing this, on the one hand, they have to spend extra time as well as have to spend extra time.

Mokles Ali of Ghatialpara village said that this road is the only road to Hamagula’s Taraganj.  This time the road was broken by Baisat and now it is time to go to Taraganj by turning another 7 miles road to Dangirhat.  In doing so, Hummer’s money has been spent more and time has been taken more.

In the same vein, Yusuf Ali of the village said, “All the villagers are trying hard so that the road is not broken.”  But there was no arrest.  It is very important for Hummer to fix the road.

Hariyarkuthi UP chairman Harun-ur-Rashid was contacted several times on his mobile phone to know whether any action had been taken by the union council to repair the road, but he could not be reached for comment.  However, UNO Aminul Islam said, “After hearing the news of the demolition, I and the upazila chairman visited.”  Since this is a huge budget work, the Water Development Board has been informed.

On the other hand, Upazila Parishad Chairman Anisur Rahman Liton said, “After the people of the area informed me about the road after it collapsed, I immediately inspected the road on the spot.”  Some allocations have been made temporarily.  Work will start in a few days.  However, we are trying to repair the road as soon as possible to prevent breakage.
