Gang rape of housewife in Sylhet, Attacked for protesting

An allegation of organized rape of a housewife has been found in Vishwanath, Sylhet. For protesting this incident, her husband and relatives were attacked. This incident took place in the upazila’s Lamakaji Union on Sunday morning, August 20.

On August 22, a case has been filed at Biswanath police station under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act. However, police have not yet arrested any accused in this sensational incident.

Complaints of the plaintiffs in the case are suffering from insecurity as the administration has not arrested the accused even though the incident has passed a long time.

According to the source of the case, the wife (38) of a person of Lamakaji Union of Biswanath Upazila is a diabetic patient. For quite some time, some scoundrels in the neighborhood have been giving him bad suggestions. On August 20, on the morning of Sunday, when he went out for a walk on the road in front of his house, Emad Uddin, the son of his neighbor Monir Uddin, along with four other accomplices blocked the way and forcibly gang-raped him in a nearby forest and left him unconscious. Later, her husband searched for her and rescued her unconscious from the forest and admitted her to Osmani Medical College Hospital OCC. Then when the victim’s husband went to protest the incident, the rapists got together and attacked the victim’s husband and children in his house with domestic weapons. In the attack, the victim’s husband was hit on the head by a sharp weapon and his son’s arm was broken. Meanwhile, the attackers molested his daughter. Several others were also injured in the attack. All of them were treated at Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Later, the victim’s husband filed a case (Case No. 17) at Biswanath Police Station as the plaintiff in the rape and assault case.

The accused in the case are Emad Uddin (23) and Ekhlach Uddin (27), son of deceased Monir Uddin (27), son of deceased Amin Uddin, Mahim Uddin (30), Anshar Uddin (25), son of Shamshul Haque, son of deceased Monir Uddin of Talukjagat village of Lamakaji Union of Upazila. Rezaul Haque, Ghiyas Uddin’s son Raihan Ahmad, Samuj Mia’s son Shaheen Ahmad (19), late Abdul Jalil’s son Samchul Haque (42), late Wajid Ullah’s son Faizul Haque (45), late Monir Uddin’s son Golam Rabbani (50), of the same upazila. Abu Sufian (19), son of Chhamir Ali of Bashirpur village, Abu Saeed (25) and Abdul Karim (20), son of Abdul Ahad.

Confirming the case, the OC of Biswanath police station investigated. Abdus Salam said that investigation into the case is ongoing. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
