Fire on the Hindu houses at within Mirsarai of Chittagong But OC and UP Chairman disagree On the Case

Rajib Sharma(Chittagong)ঃ Some unidentified perpetrators set fire on the houses of Hindu dwellers at Baghaban Master Bari within Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong on 17.02.2018 at about 2 a.m. to 3 a.m.. As a result two houses belonging to Hindus have been burnt to ashes on the same night. Local people came forward but the fire could not be extinguished despite repeated endeavor. The inmates of the houses were not available within the house and as a result they have been saved but their belongings a) sofa sets, wooden Almirah, wooden furniture, chair, tables, other important clothes and accessories were gutted the asset of minimum 5 lacs.

On the other hand Anupam Palit- owner of the house made general diary ‘entry No.95 dated 17.02.2018 at Mirsarai police station for necessary action after investigation. But the officer in charge of Mirsarai P.S. could do nothing to arrest perpetrators nor he could identify the criminals. Although police visited the spot after the occurrence but due to perfunctory investigation on the basis of GDE it was not possible for law enforcing agencies to give the victims any positive result said Hundus many groups in the Mirashorai, Ctg.


Bangladesh Minority Watch visited the spot on 23.02.2018 at Hindu Para. The Visitor of BDMW’s Adv. Rabindra Ghosh Said The News, ‘Although we visited and talked with victims, witnesses, police officers and other people whose were present during our fact finding. During our investigation many witnesses such as 1) Manik Chandra Dey (74) son of late Bidhu Bhusan Dey, 2) Sajal Sharma son of Anil Sharma, 3) Md. Tota Member (60) son of late Hossen ur Zaman, 4) Ronotosh Dey son of late Haradhan Chandra Dey, 5) Mantu Sarkar son of late Jaladhar Sarkar, 6) Umelsh Das son of Nbaran Das (55), 7) Jony Saha son of late Kamal Saha, glasses emoticon Subrata Kar son of late Sontosh Kar, 9) Sukhamoy Dey son of Debendra Kumar Dey, 10) Haradhan Majumder (82), 11) Ashim Dey son of Bacharam Dey (50), 12) Azam son of Hosenur Zamman, 13) Monmohan Sbil son of late not known, 14) Badal Dey Master son of late Benode Behari Dey, 15) Shambhu Nath Dey, son of late Debendra Kumar Dey, 16) Jhulan Dey son of late Kumode Behari Dey and other 5 to 8 person.

And Again Said that We have interrogated the victim Anupam Palit about the incident. He said during setting fire he was not at his home and he was at Chittagong town and lucky he and his family members were saved. He also said he lost more than 3,50,000.00 due to fire. He was found frightened to complain against anybody.

I have also discussed with the local Ubnion Parishad Chairman Md.Zahangir who became annoyed with our intervention relating to this incident and he continued to rebuke me with ugly langues and wanted us to leave the place. I have also reported his ugly behavior to the local administration but the local administration could nothing to do honestly.And I have also talked with the local Minister Engineer Mosharaff Hossain of his constituency who assured me that he would visit the house of the victim and gave him to understand that the local administration did not help us even the officer in charge of Mirsarai Police station did not entertain any first information report from the victim nor he himself lodged any case against perpetrators.

The Recommendations of Bangladesh Minority Watch(BDMW) has Shown The News very much concerned about the incident of setting fife on the minority houses at Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong district. BDMW demand the perpetrators responsible for setting fire should be brought to book as per law. The compensation to the victim family should be provided and the traumatized victim should be provided with protection of lives.
