On Friday afternoon, Khaleda Zia’s siblings, Shamim Iskander and Selima Rahman, met her inside the prison.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s first day inside the old Dhaka Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road was uneventful and she has been behaving normally, jail sources said.
A high official in the prison, requesting anonymity, said: “Khaleda has been taking daily meals on time. A doctor checked her medical condition on Friday morning and a pharmacist has been assigned to take care of her.
“Women jailers are looking after her needs and security. We are ensuring every facility for her as a first division inmate according to the jail code,” the official said.
On Thursday, BNP’s chief counsel claimed the court allowed Khaleda’s domestic help to stay with her inside the jail for her assistance.
However, the jail authorities denied this claim and said they did not get any documents from the court in this regard.

They arrived at the prison gate around 3pm in a white car. After waiting for about half an hour, they were allowed to meet Khaleda inside the prison.
Khaleda’s family members left the prison at 5:10pm.
However, they refused to say anything about Khaleda’s condition to the reporters outside.
Meanwhile, three lawyers of the BNP chief, Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon, Advocate Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan, and Advocate SM Julfiqar, went to the prison around 6:30pm and waited for more than two hours to get permission from the jail authorities to meet her. But the lawyers failed to meet Khaleda as the jail authorities said no officials were there to issue a permit for the lawyers to enter the prison.
The roads surrounding the prison have been placed under tight security by the police, RAB, and other agencies. People living in nearby areas are constantly asked to verify their identity to go through these roads.
A Dhaka special court sentenced BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Her elder son Tarique Rahman and four others were each sentenced to 10 years in jail. Khaleda Zia was sent to the old Central Jail on the capital’s Nazimuddin Road after the verdict.
