Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said that discussions are going on whether army would be deployed or not in the next national parliament election but no decision is yet to be taken.
He said this to BSS on Tuesday. He also described the remarks of Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder on army deployment as his personal.
Acting Secretary of Election Commission Secretariat Helaluddin Ahmed said, decision will be taken in this regard considering the situation after declaring the election schedule. It is one year to go for election and the commission has not taken any decision on the matter.
He said, to include army under definition of law enforcing agencies the Representation of the People Order (RPO), constitution and CRPC should be amended. They are the defense force not the law enforcing agency.
The acting secretary also said, the commission will decide considering the situation after declaring the election schedule whether army would be deployed as striking force or any other method.
He said, earlier in all the general elections of the country army were deployed as a striking force but the force was not given magistracy power in any election.
On using of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the next election he said, EVM will be introduced on experimental basis for voting in a ward of upcoming Rangpur City Corporation election. Decision will be taken later on its use in the national election.
