Meeting for reducing overcrowd in prisons and rehabilitating the prisoners

Dipan Mitra: 39th meeting of Dhaka District Case Coordination Committee was about reducing the number of prisoners in overcrowded prisons, providing legal assistance to helpless prisoners and healing and rehabilitating drug addicted prisoners through counseling and drug treatment.

This meeting was at Dhaka District Judge conference room on 26 September, 2018.

In this meeting, participants discussed in details the way about for reducing the number of prisoners in overcrowded prisons, providing legal assistance to helpless prisoners and healing and rehabilitating drug addicted prisoners through counseling and drug treatment. Deputy Commissioner provided emphasis on strong collaboration with different government sectors and other stakeholders for implementing these initiatives effectively.

As the sole representative of the minorities and indigenous community, Secretary General of the World Hindu Federation- Bangladesh Chapter, Dipan Mitra described the miserable situation of prisoners from minority and indigenous group.

He expected full legal assistance and fast release of innocent minority and ethnic prisoners.

In this meeting participants were Deputy Commissioner, Dhaka Mr. Abu Chaleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan, Dhaka District and Session Judge Mr. Md. Helal Choudhury, Additional District Magistrate Mrs. Kazi Nahid Rasul, Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Md. Shariful Islam, Senior Vice President of Dhaka Lawyers Association Mrs. Kazi Shahanara Yasmin, Senior Jail Super of Dhaka Central Jail Mr. Iqbal Kabir Choudhury, Assistant Director of DG Health Mr. Dr. Sanjib Kumar Karmakar including high officials from BGB, Ansar, Department of Social Welfare, Department of Narcotics Control, different government sectors and other stakeholders.
